The Best Marijuana Fertilizers on the Market

Marijuana plants, much like animals, need food. A common misconception is that all a marijuana plant needs to thrive, and grow is sunshine and water. However, marijuana plants also need a healthy amount of nutrients in the soil to make them grow strong and healthy.

Without the proper 'food' for your plant, there is a higher chance of it developing diseases and dying--or failing to grow entirely. That is why choosing the right fertilizer is essential to a healthy and happy marijuana plant. PS. Have you checked out our newest article on Organic Weed Vs. Nonorganic Weed?

Let's talk about marijuana fertilizers, and which ones you should be looking at for when you begin to grow your own marijuana plants.

What is Fertilizer?

Fertilizer is simply a blanket term for nutrients that are introduced into soil in order to make it more beneficial for the plant. Fertilizers come in all different varieties with a host of different nutrient and mineral combinations. It is very important, before buying, that you always make sure the fertilizer you are using is good for marijuana plants. Marijuana plants are very particular about what sets of nutrients and minerals they like, and when they like them.

Commercial Fertilizers

For beginner growers, it might be easier to simply go with a specialized marijuana fertilizer compound that will take a lot of the guesswork out of the process. There are tons of amazing options out there for marijuana safe, pre-made nutrient supplements that can be added to the soils.

For example:

  • FoxFarm's Liquid Bloom Trio
  • Osmocote Smart Release Plant Food
  • Maxicrop Soluable Powder

These are not marijuana specific necessarily, but they do offer all of the valuable nutrients that marijuana needs. Choosing pre-made fertilizers makes it easy to mix with water and without having to worry about the deep intricacies of the process of mixing your own fertilizers.

Using Mineral Compounds Like Perlite & Vermiculite

Perlite and vermiculite are two separate mineral compounds that are tried and true in the marijuana cultivation community. While often mentioned synonymously, they are actually two separate compounds. Perlite (volcanic glass) and vermiculite (mica) are both made by super heating different starting compounds until they transform into the porous, nutrient dense soil additives that they are.

Both perlite and vermiculite are excellent sources of potassium, calcium, and magnesium. These are three core nutrients that marijuana plants need to thrive and grow. When going with a hydroponics set up, mixing 50% perlite or vermiculite with peat moss and water is the perfect ratio. When using natural soil, all you need is about 10% perlite or vermiculite.

Composting Takes Time but It’s Worth It

Many marijuana cultivators like to make their own compost. While this takes the 'buying' aspect out of it, you can generate a more connected feeling to your crop this way.

Composting can take a very long time, and a lot of effort--but it might be the most effective. Composting allows you to precisely mix and create the perfect marijuana superfood YOUR way. Just remember that marijuana needs potassium, magnesium, and calcium when thinking of what to add into your compost mixture.

Making sure that your marijuana plant gets the nutrients it needs is always the most crucial step towards cultivating cannabis. It's not enough to simply plant and water it. It needs all the right little touches of nutrients and conditions in order to thrive--just like the human body. Make sure to feed it well no matter what source of nutrient delivery you choose. In the end, you will have a tall, thick, and healthy marijuana plant to enjoy!

What Makes MedMen One of the Top Dispensaries?

In the world of medical marijuana, some companies have been able to stand above the rest in success and industry. Much like with the tech boom in Silicon Valley of the early 70's, the marijuana industry is exploding across the nation--with only a small handful of individuals leading the charge.

In the case of the marijuana industry in North America, being first to market has been a swift indicator of potential success. This is what helped propel two young marijuana tycoons into national cannabis stardom.

What began as a small business in medical marijuana, turned into the vast multi-state retail marijuana enterprise that it is today.

That is, the dispensary chain called MedMen. As a sidenote, feel free to check out our Tips on Improving Your Cannabis Flavor.

Seeing Potential in Marijuana

Marijuana has been legalized in California for medicinal use for quite some time. However, it wasn't until 2012 that the real explosion of marijuana as an industry in the United States began.

Prior to this, in 2010, Adam Bierman and Andrew Modlin claim that they saw a serious potential for the marijuana industry nationwide and decided to invest as soon as they could.

It would take 8 years to achieve widespread success. It was in 2018 when the state of California legalized marijuana use for recreational purposes, and MedMen became a household name. In that same year, using aggressive expansion tactics, the pair expanded MedMen into New York, Nevada, and even Florida in 2019.

As of now, you can find MedMen stores in Arizona, Nevada, California, Illinois, Florida, and New York. Today, MedMen is a multi-million-dollar mega corporation within the small (but growing) marijuana industry. Aside from becoming so massive so quickly, what makes this 'Apple Inc' of the Marijuana world so much better than the rest?

De-stigmatizing Marijuana

In many ways, the marijuana industry is still rather stigmatized. Many recreational and medicinal users find themselves trying to visit their dispensaries discreetly, and away from prying eyes. There is simply too much social stigma surrounding cannabis use to eliminate in only a few years. However, MedMen has done a bang-up job of trying.

The MedMen experience is unlike any other dispensary experience in the United States. Founders Modlin and Bierman always strove to make MedMen akin to shopping at somewhere like 'Whole Foods' or 'The Apple Store'. That is, they wanted buying marijuana to be a sleek, stylish, and cutting-edge experience that makes shoppers feel welcome and 'at ease'.

When you enter MedMen stores, you will find Budtenders who are knowledgeable and welcoming, and who will even check you out with iPads and iPhones. You'll find a clean atmosphere with sleek and minimalist decor and furniture, and the entire experience is like being in a high-end retail chain. Which is what sets them apart in the eyes of marijuana users.

You see, for many, the dispensary experience can be a bit grungy or shady. Many dispensaries across the United States and Canada seem to be marketed towards the stereotypical 'stoner'--which is not what the majority of users are.

MedMen targets their services towards the average user who wants to feel like they are buying something normalized, and even cutting edge--not some back alley weed from their dealer. It's this difference that has made MedMen spread to over 32 locations, across 6 states, with over 1,000 employees, and earning a $1 billion evaluation.

The MedMen chain is a look into what marijuana as an industry can be if given enough time. It is a chain of marijuana dispensaries that aims to provide a comfortable, sleek, and high-tech experience--not a skeezy feeling. Buying marijuana is still stigmatized in many social circles, and the MedMen experience is going a long way towards changing that.

Tips on Growing Bushy and Dense Marijuana Plants

Getting the most out of your marijuana crop harvest is always the ultimate goal of any marijuana cultivator. A dense and bushy marijuana plant is one that will have a higher yield, waste less space in the grow room, and remain heartier during the growing process.

In essence, everyone is trying to get thicker, bushier, more dense marijuana plants. Before you delve deeper into this article, feel free to check out another one of our recently published articles, Tips on Improving Your Cannabis Flavor.

If you are new to cultivating marijuana, you might want to know a few tips and tricks to getting your marijuana plant to be as dense and bushy as possible. Here are a few of the most reliable methods:

Start Off With A Superior Strain

The greatest tip you will ever receive, is to always start off with a good strain of marijuana. No matter if you are growing from a seed or a clone, good genetics are going to be the first indication of a dense and bushy plant.

If a plant is genetically inferior, it will never grow to be as dense and bushy as you would like it to be. Always avoid getting seeds or clones from anywhere other than a reliable and trusted source--you're better off that way.

Trellis Support Allows the Plant to Grow

Trellising your plants is a great way to make them grow dense and strong. If you want your plant to grow to be huge, it needs the support to be able to do so. A plant that is not trellised or supported in any way will not have the strength to grow massive in size.

Using some form of trellis--made of wood, bamboo, or even metal--you can give the plant the support it needs to grow as tall as you can get it. However, always make sure you are well versed on the art of trellising, otherwise you could end up damaging your plant in the process.

Learn How to Train and Prune Your Plants

Marijuana plants naturally like to grow 'up' rather than 'out'. This leads to very thin and vertically oriented plants. If you wish to maximize your yield and create a more dense and bushy plant, you need to train and prune it.

Training your plant involves either low stress (stem tying) or high stress (topping) training techniques. In addition, pruning away dying or decaying excess leaves and 'mess' in order to allow light to get into otherwise untouched places. These techniques are all crucial for growing a big and thick bush.

Light Control is Very Important

Plants get their energy through photosynthesis (thank-you biology class!). This is the process of converting light into energy for processing nutrients and growth. However, not just any light available will be able to do the trick. Marijuana plants need a very specific type of lighting in order to generate the right amount of growth.

When growing outdoors, this should be very little concern to you except for where you position your plants to give proper amounts of shading during hot peak hours. When growing indoors, LEDs are generally considered to be the best as they are bright, put out the proper light spectrum, and aren't too hot. Always pay attention to the amount of light and the type of light your plants are getting.

Growing and cultivating marijuana is a fun exercise in patience, trial and error, and learning. It's incredibly common to fail on the first try. However, over time, anyone can learn to grow thick and bushy marijuana plants that will produce massive yields. All it takes is a bit of practice, and you too can have plants that look massive, happy, healthy, and dense!

Missouri Finally Has Its First Legal Cannabis Grow House

It's an exciting time to be a marijuana cultivator in the United States today. Each year more and more states are opening their borders to marijuana cultivation, research, and use. Slowly but surely the prohibition on marijuana cultivation is being lifted; and for residents of Missouri, that door has been flung wide open as of June 11th.

As a side note, feel free to check out our Tips on Improving Your Cannabis Flavor.

The St. Louis based BeLeaf Medical LLC was the first applicant to receive their official marijuana cultivation licenses in the state of Missouri. After legalizing the use of medical marijuana in 2018, the Missouri government has spent some time working out the kinks and legalities of allowing legal cultivation.

Having jumped at the chance as soon as applications were being accepted, BeLeaf Medical LLC applied and was subsequently approved for 10 separate medical marijuana licenses. Three of their licenses are for cultivation purposes, two of their licenses are for manufacturing, and the remaining five are for retail and sale.

Kevin Riggs, president of BeLeaf Medical LLC, has spent four years operating a CBD cultivation operation within the state of Missouri. In this way, he is no stranger to the world of marijuana cultivation and retail. However, he hopes to be able to fulfill a much sought after gap in the market with THC medical marijuana as soon as product and crop is available--which he hopes to be by the end of the third quarter - beginning of the fourth quarter.

The State Health Department of Missouri has required all marijuana cultivation and distribution license applicants to undergo rigorous inspections prior to being issued licenses. Riggs stated that BeLeaf's cultivation center underwent this 'commencement inspection' 10-days prior to being issued the licenses. The inspection is meticulous in the sense that it covers every aspect of the health, safety, volume, and operations within the marijuana growing facility.

BeLeaf Medical LLC will be cultivating and distributing their marijuana products under the brand name of Sinse. This comes from the term 'sinsemilla' which is a term used to describe prime, ideal marijuana flowers that are seedless and perfect for general consumption. The grow center is located just outside the center of St. Louis in the suburb of Earth City. Riggs hopes to begin the slow roll out of their Sinse brand of medical marijuana.

Currently there is no real knowledge of exactly when the state of Missouri will allow full distribution of medical marijuana. There is still a long list of logistics and licensing issues that need to be worked through before the state will allow cultivators like BeLeaf Medical to distribute what they grow.

Riggs himself cautions residents to temper their expectations, and that launching a medical marijuana infrastructure in a state is not like 'turning on a light switch'.

The process of building the infrastructure for the industry in Missouri is moving forward quickly, but not without some hurdles and challenges along the way.

However, BeLeaf Medical LLC is not the only player in the game. In southern Missouri another cultivation center is set to open under the teamwork of BD Health Ventures and ERBA Holdings LLC. This could very well be the beginnings of a lucrative and vast medical marijuana industry in the state of Missouri.

Marijuana Charge Lands Man in Prison For 18 Years--He Is Now Free

The prohibition on marijuana, and subsequently the war on drugs, has brought no small amount of unjust prison sentences throughout the years. Each year hundreds of non-violent men and women are caught in possession of marijuana and sentenced to massive fines and even prison time. Discount Pharms has the details:

In a country where nearly half of the population has access to legalized recreational marijuana, the imbalance of justice is anything but fair. However, for some, the punishments are more imbalanced than others.

Craig Cesal

In the case of one man, Craig Cesal, the punishment he faced for being caught with connection to marijuana was far, and way worse than anyone could have ever dreamed. Craig Cesal was a Chicago native who lived a life many of us would consider normal. He had a wife, kids, a university education, and he even owned his own business repairing trucks in Lakeland, Florida.

The trouble for Mr. Cesal began when a certain group of individuals began asking him to repair their refrigerated trucks. Mr. Cesal stated that he had a feeling that these trucks were being used for smuggling something, but he felt it was none of his business. That is, until it was discovered that the trucks had been used to smuggle tons of marijuana illegally.

In 1996, Mr. Cesal was sentenced to lifetime in prison for a non-violent conspiracy to distribute marijuana. Despite Mr. Cesal himself never having any contact with marijuana, nor having any knowledge of the marijuana in questioned--he simply repaired the trucks for the clients. This landed him what has now been 18 years in prison and should have been far more if not for a major break in his case.

On the 17th of June 2020, Mr. Cesal was approved for release to home confinement due to complications in the prison system with Covid-19. Mr. Cesal himself is in the high-risk group with diabetes and lung related issues. This only came after multiple denials from the Bureau of Prisons and Federal Corrections Institute of Terre Haute, IN.

His current home release was made possible by a massive online campaign backed by friends, family, locals, and even some within the marijuana industry. The outpouring of support for Mr. Cesal even sent word to Attorney General William Barr. Finally, after enough noise, Craig Cesall was able to be released for the duration of this coronavirus epidemic. Although it should be noted, he has not earned his freedom yet.

Craig Cesal still hopes to fight his sentencing and earn his freedom entirely. Behind him are his daughters, his family, and many within the marijuana community.

Mr. Cesal claims that he did not know what he was doing was even against the law, as he had no connection to the marijuana and did not even know it existed. As a truck repairman, he claims he was innocent of the charges brought against him--and many are inclined to agree.

Despite the situation not being perfectly remedied, Mr. Cesal still states that he is happy to be home with his family. He feared that with a life sentence, he would never get the chance to see and hug his daughters again as a free man. For now, he will get to spend time with his loved ones, and he hopes to fight for his full freedom moving forward.

Main Ways To Extract THC From Marijuana

Cannabis extracts are an amazingly versatile way to consume cannabis in general. By extracting the THC from the cannabis plant, consumers can use those extracts in edibles, vape oils, as dabs, or in tinctures and more.

By creating a pure THC extract, consumers are able to more accurately control their dosage, and get a stronger experience in general.

The exact methods used for extracting THC from marijuana plants can vary wildly and will yield slightly different results. Here are the four most popular ways of extracting THC from marijuana in consumer products. PS. Take a look at our hemp seeds for sale page for specific information on quality seeds.

Ethanol Extraction

Ethanol extraction, otherwise called alcohol extraction, is perhaps the most popular method of extraction. This is primarily because it is the most cost effective and can be done very quickly. This makes it great for manufacturers as it can yield high volumes quickly.

Ethanol extraction involves running ethanol alcohol through the plant material in order to extract the cannabinoids by stripping the cannabinoids and terpenes away from the plant itself. The alcohol is then dissolved through a vacuum evaporating process, leaving only the terpenes and cannabinoid extracts.

Supercritical CO2 Extraction

Supercritical CO2 extraction is a popular method of extraction that is on the rise in mass production manufacturing. This is primarily because it can yield incredibly high amounts of extract and is also able to more accurately target certain compounds and cannabinoids during the process.

The process is done by bringing the CO2 to a supercritical temperature, in which it is both a liquid and a gas. During this process, the supercritical compound will be passed through the cannabis plant material and used to strip away the desired cannabinoids and compounds for the extract. This method produces an incredibly 'clean' extract but has a significantly higher production cost.

Butane/Propane Extraction

Butane or propane extraction is another solvent method of extraction that is relatively popular in the cannabis industry. This process uses a heated and pressurized chamber with the solvent and cannabis plant matter within it.

This method of extraction yields what is known as butane/propane hash oil (or shatter). This method of extraction is similar in concept to ethanol extraction but can be a bit more volatile if not performed correctly. This method is usually used to create the very specific product of extract that it yields and is considered a 'niche' extraction method.

Non-Solvent Extraction

There are more 'natural' ways of creating cannabis extracts that do not require the use of solvents or expensive equipment as well. In fact, hash and kief are both considered cannabis extracts in their own right.

This is because hash and kief are made by separating and isolating the trichomes of the cannabis plan and using them as a more potent and direct method of consuming THC. Kief can be made by simply running your bud through a grinder and using the tiny little particulates that collect in the chamber.

Hash can be made by freezing or cooling the bud and breaking it down to isolate the trichomes. These methods are easy to do at home and are considered 'solvent-free extraction methods'.

Understanding the exact method used to create an extract can help you to understand how the final product will taste and feel when used. Solvent extractions can contain trace amounts of residue from the solvent used to create them and can often have a distinct flavor profile. Supercritical CO2 extraction will typically come at a higher price tag.

Ultimately, your preferred extraction method will come down to personal preference; although they are very unique in their own ways.

Organic Weed Vs. Non-Organic Weed

As with any sort of crop or consumer plant, marijuana is not immune to the 'organic vs. non-organic' debate. While it is easy to say that organic is always best--that is how nature intended things--sometimes non-organic growing methods have advantages as well.

There is a rather spirited debate among the cannabis community about the merits of growing organically as opposed to non-organically, but ultimately it will come down to the preferences of the grower.

Cannabis in general is a very hearty crop. It can be grown in a wide range of climates ranging from warm to cold. This means that cannabis can withstand quite a bit in the way of diversity when it comes to growing methods and styles.

If you want to buy high cbd hemp seeds, take a look here.

Both Kinds Will Yield Similar Results

In this regard, growing cannabis organically versus non-organically will ultimately yield very similar results. In most cases, the final product will be indistinguishable from each other unless you are an expert on the subject. However, that is not to say that each method does not have its own reasons for choosing it.

Non-organic Growing is the Most Popular

Non-organic cannabis growing is perhaps the most popular method of cannabis growing in the world. As with many things, science and synthetic processing has made the absolute need for organic nutrients a non-necessity.

These days, plant 'super-foods' can be synthesized and created in order to hone in on the exact amount of organic matter and nutrients required to make a cannabis plant thrive. Non-organic nutrients and water treatment methods can allow for growers to get really precise in their measurements, in addition to saving a whole lot of time.

Organic Growing Uses Only Naturally Sourced Materials

Organic cannabis growing is the act of using only naturally--and often locally--sourced materials in order to feed and nourish your cannabis plants. This is done by creating organic super soils, composts, and compost teas to feed the plant throughout the growth process.

In many cases, organic cannabis growing will require the grower to let the cannabis plant do its thing with very little intervention or adjustment in the pH or nutrient levels once the plant is in the ground. Organic growing can be very time intensive, and extremely 'hands-on' in the beginning phases.

It Comes Down To the Cost

An additional direct comparison of the two methods will come down to cost. Often non-organic growing is cheaper up front as it requires the grower to purchase less in the way of necessary nutrients and ingredients. Organic cannabis growing will require a bit of an 'up-start' cost to buy the ingredients needed to make the super coil, compost, etc.,

While these organic materials are not expensive individually, the mounting cost of all of them together can and often does exceed the cost of non-organic nutrients and soils. However, it is important to know that super soils and composts can be made in massive quantities and can save the grower money in the long run.

In the end, the choice will be up to you as the grower which method you prefer. Many growers prefer to grow organically as it helps them feel more connected to their crop; it ensures that no harsh chemicals or compounds enter the Earth or their plant.

Other growers like the ease and speed which comes with non-organic growing. Each method is valid, and each has merits. All you have to do is decide which works best for you!

Tips on Improving Your Cannabis Flavor

Much like a fine wine, the flavor profile of cannabis can be just as diverse and exotic depending on the strain and growth conditions. Different strains and hybrids of cannabis will each come with their own rich and vibrant flavor profiles, which can greatly enhance the overall experience of the cannabis--or hurt it.

By the way, buying hemp seed can be tricky; check out our page for quality information.

All Cannabis Does Not Taste the Same

While some may say that all cannabis tastes the same, the truth is that cannabis can and absolutely does taste better when properly cared for during the growing phases. If you are interested in maximizing the flavor of your own personal cannabis crop, here are a few tips on how to do it.

Start with Quality Seeds

The harsh truth is that a good quality cannabis plant always begins with a good quality seed. While lower quality seeds can be cared for in a way that drastically improves their quality, it can be a lot of work.

Starting with a high-quality seed is always starting off on the right foot. Begin by sourcing your seeds (or clones) from a reputable seller who can guarantee a healthy and quality pedigree!

Boost Terpene Production

Terpenes are far and away the most important component when it comes to building a complex and desirable flavor profile. Terpenes are a molecular compound that exist within many types of plants and contribute greatly to the overall flavor and smell of your cannabis. In addition, terpenes are attributed to the quality of high as well.

In order to increase terpene production, a cannabis plant needs to undergo careful and strategically planned stress. Low stress training is a way to 'stress' the plant by encouraging it to grow more widely rather than upwards. This exposes more of the leaves to sunlight and encourages terpene production.

Be Careful with Nutrients

Nutrient companies have a tendency to overestimate the required amount of nutrients necessary to feed your plants. Over feeding your cannabis plants can cause nutrient burn, which will lead to a very unsavory flavor and ultimately a bad harvest.

Always err on the side of caution when feeding your cannabis plant nutrients and try to hone in on the 'sweet zone' that produces the results you are looking for.

Cure Your Bud

After you have allowed your bud to dry properly, the best thing you can do for preserving and cultivating flavor is to cure it properly. As soon as your cannabis is dried, you should place it in a sealed jar or bag as soon as possible. For the first week, you should allow fresh air into the container once a day to allow proper levels of moisture to preserve the trichomes. Proper curing of the bud after it has been dried will help towards preserving the flavor for longer periods.

For many cannabis lovers, the flavor of the cannabis is just as important as the aroma when it comes to the overall experience of their high. Bud that tastes bad can ruin the experience entirely. Taking the time to properly care for your weed from the seed to the curing is going to go a long way towards creating a tasteful and delicious bud.

While it may seem simple to say 'take care of the plant and it will taste better' the process is actually more in depth than that. In truth, honing in on the proper methods to produce the flavor you are looking for can take quite a bit of trial and error. Don't be afraid to experiment!

Philly Police Have Stopped Marijuana Arrests During the Pandemic

This novel coronavirus, Covid-19, has forced all of us to operate in totally new and innovative ways.

For most of us, this simply means that we are changing the way that we shop or spend our days at home. But for the police and legal system of Philadelphia, they have had to change the way they uphold the law altogether.

Outside of the famous Independence Hall in central city Philadelphia, hangs a sign stating, ' buildings on Independence Square are closed'. The fears of the spread of the novel Coronavirus have forced the court systems in the city of Philadelphia to temporarily shut down and suspend all operations until further notice.

This has, of course, led to no small number of hiccups and issues for those awaiting processing and trial. Those who are currently being detained awaiting their hearings, are not able to receive their hearings until further notice.

As a result, the Philadelphia city jails are packed to the gills, with no end in sight.

By the way, you can visit Discount Pharms for CBD and hemp information.

Non-Violent Crime Would Be Made Pursuant to a Warrant

Not long after April 1st saw the shutdown of the courts in Philadelphia, a representative of the Philadelphia police department issued a statement that all non-violent crime arrests would be made pursuant to a warrant.

This means that all offenders will be arrested if caught in the act, but would be held on an arrest warrant, instead of being detained. This is very similar to the 'summons process' that many other countries utilize in these such circumstances.

In essence, those who are caught in possession of marijuana, caught shoplifting, caught engaging in solicitation of prostitution, etc. could likely not become detained at all until after the courts re-open.

It should be noted, however, that the officers in Philadelphia have still been given the right to arrest--or not arrest-- at their direction. This has led many to question whether issuing arrest warrants for marijuana charges is worth it at all.

Marijuana as a substance is perfectly legal in many states throughout the USA, and as such should not be considered in the same 'pool' as the other non-violent crimes being issued warrants for; at least in the eyes of many.

Other States Have Are Taking Similar Approaches

Other states such as Maryland, and New Jersey have begun to take on similar approaches to the rising issues of overcrowded prisons and bogged down court systems.

Baltimore in particular has become very relaxed towards marijuana arrests, with many legislators in New Jersey stating that they see this as an opportunity to change their views on marijuana altogether.

How Has the Pandemic Impacted the Marijuana Industry?

This pandemic has impacted the marijuana industry in unique ways across the board. However, the recent halt on non-violent arrests has forced many in the public to question whether it should affect the way we view marijuana legally in general.

When faced with the choice of making arrests of non-violent offenders, some in the Philadelphia police department have implied that marijuana offenders are at the bottom of the priority list.

So, why should they be on the list at all? Currently those who are caught and arrested for marijuana will be released on arrest warrants which will be pursued after the courts re-open; but many are hoping that the charges are never brought to court at all. This could force a major reform in marijuana law in the city altogether moving forward.

How to Deal with White Powdery Mildew on Cannabis Plants

Growing cannabis can often leave you scratching your head over certain problems that arise or changes that occur in the plant's growth. Cannabis plants are incredibly hardy by nature, but they do come with their own sets of challenges and can be prone to certain illnesses or issues sometimes.

Often, a simple change in the humidity in the air can lead to catastrophic failure in the entire crop--cannabis is fickle like that. One of the most common issues that growers face is 'white powdery mildew', or WPM for short.

If you have ever noticed what looks like small patches of powdered sugar on your cannabis leaves, that is WPM growing on the plant. When not treated, WPM can become a serious issue and can destroy the crops. Let's talk about what WPM is, how it grows, and how to treat it. Visit Discount Pharms for CBD and hemp information.

What Is WPM?

WPM is simply a rapidly reproducing, aggressive form of fungus that occurs on a variety of plants, and completely ravages them. It is a type of mold that can occur when the conditions are 'just right' for it to do so.

What Causes WPM?

There are a few ways that WPM can begin to develop on your cannabis plants. Just like with any fungus, the conditions need to be just right for the growth to occur.

Unfortunately, the conditions in which WPM thrives are easy to replicate on accident. WPM thrives under:

  • High humidity
  • Low airflow
  • Poorly ventilated areas
  • Plants growing too close together

These conditions can produce the wet, dense atmosphere with poor circulation that helps mold to thrive. Imagine what happens if you leave a wet sock in a sealed container--over time mildew begins to grow. It's no different with cannabis.

How to Get Rid of It

WPM is easy to spot, and usually gets caught early even by inexperienced growers. It's a white powdery substance on the leaves, it's hard to miss. As long as the spores are caught early, you can likely save the plant with little harm done.

The best thing you can do is get a damp paper towel with water, and gently wipe the mildew off of all the leaves affected. Be careful not to jostle the plant too much as loose spores could 'latch on' in other places.

Once you have removed the spores to the best of your ability, purchase and mix a plant treatment substance that is designed for preventing mold and mildew--GrowSafe is a great product for this.

Gently mist your plants with the product and set about preventing new spores from re-growing. You will need to find a way to reduce humidity in your grow room and increase airflow. Buying a dehumidifier and box fans are a cheap and easy way to accomplish this.

Keeping a careful eye on your cannabis plants daily will help you to catch issues like WPM early on. With most fungus or mildew problems, they can be treated if caught early. If left to run rampant, they can destroy your crops entirely.

Take quick action and take steps to prevent the conditions in which WPM can thrive. With luck, you won't have to worry about WPM ever again!

Purple Cannabis Buds: A Guide To Growing Them

Cannabis comes in a variety of different looks, aromas, flavors, and strengths. It is a complex plant, and many individuals love trying as many different varieties as they possible can--the more exotic the better.

This quest to find the most interesting bud always comes with hot trends, and exciting concepts. There's a whole world of cannabis out there, and growers are always trying to create the 'next big thing'.

Right now, 'purple' cannabis is all the rage. This gorgeous hue of bud provides an added layer of complexity, and 'clout' to the bud that the smoker is purchasing. Simply put, purple cannabis is gorgeous, and cool to look at.

So, if you are growing your own cannabis at home, how do you make it grow purple? Let's talk about that.

PS. Check out Discount Pharms for information on buying hemp flowers and more.

What Is Purple Cannabis?

Purple cannabis is merely cannabis that has been grown to have different pigmentation than 'normal' strains. All plants have pigments, which help them to create photosynthesis--gather energy from the sun.

Typically, among plants, this pigment is chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is the pigment compound that helps the plants convert light into energy, and also gives them their green color. However, it is not the only pigment that can do this.

If a plant does not have chlorophyll, it will use other pigments such as anthocyanins. Anthocyanins can absorb all of the wavelengths of the sun's rays, except for the indigo ones. This is why cannabis plants which are high in anthocyanins grow to be purple. The purple coloration can occur in the pistils, calyxes, trichomes, and leaves.

How To Grow Purple Cannabis

There are no shortage of theories and wild ideas out there on how to grow cannabis to be purple. Some will tell you to deprive the plant of oxygen at certain stages, others will try adding food coloring to the water to get the purple hue.

Neither of these are going to be an effective way to get your plant purple. While there are effective methods of turning your plant purple through targeted nutrient deprivation, it's not recommended unless you are an exceptionally experienced grower.

The truth is, the best way is to simply purchase seeds that have genetics for growing purple; such as Purple Queen or Blue Mystic. This will be the easiest and most effective route. However, if you want to attempt it yourself, you can try reducing the temperature of your grow room during the flowering stage.

A drastic change in daytime/nighttime temperatures will cause the chlorophyll to breakdown, and anthocyanins to take its place. Ideally you would have a 50-60-degree Fahrenheit difference between daytime and nighttime cycles.

Aside from simply buying specially bred strains for their purple hue, it can be very difficult to grow your own weed to become purple. This is because manipulating the nutrients of the plant can easily kill them if you aren't an expert.

The temperature method is likely to be your safest, and easiest bet--even though it isn't 100% guaranteed. You want to breed your cannabis with less chlorophyll, and more anthocyanins, that ultimately will give you the cool purple color you are after.

Sensory Deprivation Tanks & Weed: The Perfect Combo, Or A Mistake?

There always seems to be a new and interesting therapy method or trend on the horizon. Whether it be psychological or physical, experts are always looking for cutting edge ways to treat pains, and stresses in our daily lives. That is why sensory deprivation tanks have returned to being quite a buzz topic in the past couple of years.

Sensory deprivation tanks are designed to completely isolate the user in a manner that allows them to 'wipe the slate clean' both mentally and physically while they are inside. But what does being high do to change the experience?

In order to understand that, first we should talk about how sensory deprivation tanks work. You may also check out Discount Pharms for information on buying hemp seeds and more.

What Is A Sensory Deprivation Tank?

Sensory deprivation tanks have been around since the mid 1950's; they are also known as 'float tanks' or 'isolation tanks. They work by sealing the user in a small, completely dark tank that is somewhat filled with saturated water that contains enough Epsom salt to ensure anyone can float in it. The chamber leaves the user totally locked away from sight, sound, and floating as if in space.

It might sound scary, but many who use them say that the complete removal from the worldly senses allows them to focus on their inner self, and they even help to relieve some chronic pains and aches while inside. So, now to the real question; does weed enhance this experience?

How Does Weed Affect the Sensory Deprivation Tank Experience?

The short answer to this is, well, it depends. Smokers have been known to use sensory deprivation tanks rather often in the past. Sensory deprivation tanks are meant to provide relaxation, inner reflection, creative thoughts, and an overall sense of well-being.

These are traits that are also often associated with the use of marijuana. So, for many, the pairing of the two can lead to a spiritual and physical experience like none other. Many smokers will tell you that once you try a sensory deprivation tank a few times while stoned, you will never want to do it 'sober' ever again.

The combination of euphoria caused by the cannabis, mixed with the total sensory isolation of the tank, can make for an environment perfect for sparking something spiritual and creative inside the mind. It can also help take pressure off of achy joints and allow the cannabis to seep away the pain. It's easy to see how this combination could be amazing for those in the right mindset.

However, this experience isn't going to be the same across the board. For some, marijuana smoking leads to very different reactions. Many smokers can exhibit increased anxiety or paranoia when they smoke outside of their 'comfort zone'.

In these cases, a small dark chamber with no noise might actually induce a panic attack. This is why it will likely come down to your connection with marijuana in general.

There are very few studies conducted on sensory deprivation tanks beyond anecdotal and testimonial. However, they are rapidly becoming popular again--especially at spas. They are often relaxing, and calming, even for those who do not suffer from pre-existing mental or physical conditions.

If you are someone who handles marijuana and being 'high' very well, the combination could be an absolutely incredible one. However, if you have a tendency to get a bit anxious when high, perhaps it's best to avoid the experience altogether.

Cannabis Industry Thriving or Dying During This Pandemic?

The current global situation has forced many to adjust their perspective on things in a very real and personal way. Many have been faced with the hard decision of cutting out certain 'discretionary' or 'luxury' purchases in order to cut down costs and save on money while the economy is on lock-down.

This has, naturally, done a number on many industries nationwide. Restaurants, bars, movie theaters, hair salons, gyms, they are all suffering due to this pandemic. But, how is the cannabis industry handling it? Well, let's start with the good news. Check out Discount Pharms for information on hemp seeds and more!

The Good News

Alongside hand sanitizer, toilet paper, and food, many cannabis consumers have reported that marijuana is on their list of things that are a 'must-have' in stock. This has been good news for the cannabis industry, as the industry as a whole has seen a massive up-tick in sales.

Consumers have realized that they may not be able to get to their dispensaries very often for the foreseeable future and have taken this time to buy all of their edibles, flower, vape liquids, and tinctures en masse.

Despite being closed, many dispensaries and online distributors were able to host 4/20 virtual events that were a massive success. The online cannabis industry is still thriving, and still seems to be doing well despite the obvious obstacles. In fact, recent surveys of consumers show that online business has risen 17% since the pandemic started.

This means that more people than ever are buying online, and of those new 'recruits', 34% have sad that they prefer the experience over brick-and-mortar shopping. This could mean a drastic change to the industry as we know it moving forward, which doesn't have to be a bad thing. However, not all is going perfectly swimmingly.

The Bad News

While online sales are thriving, many of those in the industry are without work right now.

The marijuana industry has secured 'essential worker' status as far as legal states are concerned, but the lack of actual in-store customers has left many dispensaries cutting back on manpower and even closing up shop altogether. This does not bode well for those who work within the industry on the ground floor.

Another area of concern is the fact that marijuana dispensaries and growers--despite being federally legal to operate--are not eligible for government stimulus money. This means that these companies are going to have to 'boot strap' themselves through these hard times. We could see the unfortunate impact of this down the road as the lock-down persists.

So, what is the ultimate answer to the question?

Well, in all honesty, the cannabis industry as a whole entity is thriving. More people are buying and stocking up on their marijuana than ever before. However, the impact on the brick-and-mortar dispensaries could be irreversible if something is not done to protect them. This very well could lead to a dramatic shift of consumers switching to online buying in the future, and physical dispensaries becoming a thing of the past.

Make sure that when the country reopens, you make a visit to your local dispensary; they could really use our help right now amid the business shifting towards online sales.

Vapor Additives: A How to Read Labels Guide

Vaping cannabis is one of the most popular methods of consumption around these days. Whether it be CBD, or THC, many marijuana lovers prefer to get the fast-acting quick hits of a vape rather than edibles or standard flower smoking. However, the problem with vape e-juice, is that sometimes it can contain certain unsavory additives.

These additives can lead to a number of health issues such as popcorn lung or other respiratory conditions. In the case of one individual who vaped Jamaica Ginger, they received paralysis in the leg known as 'Jake leg'.

These issues stem from a striking lack of regulation in the young marijuana vape industry.

Here is how you can avoid these unsavory additives and read your e-juice labels properly.

By the way, if you want to know more about where you should buy hemp seeds, check out our page here.

What to Look For on the Labels

The blunt truth is (hehe) it's never 100% safe to inhale anything that is a foreign substance to your lungs. However, in general, vaping is relatively risk-free so long as the vaporized liquid is natural and organic.

Sometimes vaping liquid manufacturers will add thickeners, thinners, preservatives, flavorings, and even coloring to make their product more appealing. Most of these are safe, but some are a firm 'no-go'.

The biggest culprit in health concerns is vitamin E acetate, or tocopheryl acetate. Vitamin E Oil is used in a lot of health and wellness products but should never be inhaled in the way that vape juice is consumed. It is typically used as a thickener, as it can thicken the CBD or THC oils without making them too runny for the vaporizer.

However, vitamin E oil has been connected to the injury, and death of dozens of users all across the USA. This is an ingredient that you should always be on the lookout for; it has luckily been banned in many states already but can still come across boarders through illicit trades.

Other Compounds to Look For

Other compounds that can cause issues for those sensitive are propylene glycol, and vegetable glycerin. These are common additives used to help the oils vaporize properly, but when not in their 'organic' state they can cause allergic reactions and health concerns.

Aside from these small issues, vaping marijuana e-liquids are relatively safe. All reports of recent investigations have linked most if not all of the issues to vitamin E acetate, and potential allergens such as synthetic vegetable glycerin.

Knowing Where the Product Came from Is Very Important

It is also important to note that all of the issues related to vaping marijuana e-liquids were connected to black market vape cartridges.

These cartridges and liquids are known to be filled with additives that 'cut' the marijuana oils to make the stretch further in various ways. In this case, it is much like trying to drink moonshine made in the mountains; you might be fine, but you never know if it'll turn you blind.

Your best bet is to always buy your vape e-liquids or cartridges from reputable sources and licensed distributors. They will not contain vitamin E acetate and will likely contain natural vegetable glycerin over synthetic.

The marijuana vape scene is still in its 'wild west' phase. That is, there is still very little strict regulation on what can and cannot be added to the liquids in general. Because of this, unsavory practices have popped up and health issues have skyrocketed.

As mentioned above, as long as you stick to reputable distribution channels, you are likely to be 100% fine. Just remember to check your labels, and research if your vape liquid contains vitamin E acetate in any form, or synthetic vegetable glycerin. The rest should be smooth sailing.

5 Popular Ways to Smoke Wax Without A Rig

Wax is probably the most popular form of cannabis concentrate available on the market. There are several other forms that THC concentrate can come in, but wax is probably the most accessible and the easiest to consume. However, what many might not know, is that smoking wax--dabbing--usually requires the use of a specialized dab rig.

These are rigs designed to properly smoke the wax without losing any of the good-good, and to burn it safely. The only downside is that these rigs are usually expensive. So, if you are looking to smoke wax, but don't have a big busy rig, here's how you can do it.

By the way, if you need a hemp seeds buying guide, check it out here.

The Joint Method

This method is rather self-explanatory and will be easy for almost any smoker to grasp. All you have to do is simply place a small amount of wax inside your standard joint and smoke it!

Be careful to not place any wax on the end you are lighting--open flame directly on wax is not a fun time. This method is probably the most popular method for those who don't want to do a pure dab, or who don't have a rig.

The Bowl Method

If you are a bowl smoker, as opposed to joint smoker, the bowl method is for you. This is a similar concept to the joint method, just modified to fit the bowl.

Start by packing your bowl 1/3rd of the way full of bud and add a small layer of wax on top of the weed. Know add a final thin layer of weed on top of that wax, sandwiching it in the middle, and smoke as usual!

The Healthstone Method

Healthstone glass is a unique little glass product that makes dabbing or smoking concentrates a breeze for those who do it often.

Healthstone is a porous glass that looks sort of like a sponge and sits in the bowl of a pipe and is heated with the dab placed on top of it. The act of smoking is very similar to smoking from a pipe in general, but the healthstone glass makes it far easier.

The Cooking Method

This method might not be as 'fun' as the others, but it still works, and you will still get a more intense high than normal cannabis flower would provide. You can decarboxylate cannabis concentrates just like you would flower and use them to cook in baked goods or homemade candies.

The wax is far more THC dense than flower would be, and wax-made edibles are also more 'potent' in this regard. Just make sure not to add too much, as you will end up getting more than you bargained for!

The Knife Method

This method is for those who absolutely do not have any other option. It is a bit dangerous and doesn't get quite the same results you would get from more secure methods.

However, it will work. Simply take a butter knife and heat it on a stove top or with a torch. Once it is good and hot, drop your wax dab on the knife and inhale the fumes as fast as you can. This method will result in wasting a fair bit of wax, but in a pinch, it will do the trick.

Smoking wax is a highly concentrated form of cannabis, and as such should be smoked with caution. This is not to mean that it is dangerous, just that it is very strong. Make sure to always start small and work your way up. Less can often be more with wax! Remember to be safe and enjoy the ride.

How to Create Your Own Cannabis Super Soil Mix!

In gardening, the soil is among the most important aspects of growing any plant. It doesn't matter if you are planting a towering oak, or a tiny little bean sprout, the soil is going to play a massive part in how healthy and strong your plant grows. For cbd flower wholesale faq, check out our link.

This Is Great Information for First-time Home Growers

In the case of cannabis cultivation, this is no different. Cannabis plants require a very particular set of nutrients within their soil, in order to yield the absolute best results. Because of this, many home growers find themselves simply making their own super soil mix, rather than buying it.

Let's talk about what goes into making a great super soil mix for your own cannabis plants.

Start Off with A Good Soil Base

You actually aren't going to need very much in order to be on your way to making your own super soil mix at home. All you need is a good soil base, and a few ingredients. Let's get started!

Starting with a strong and organic soil base is going to be the first key to success. Cannabis likes a well aerated, slightly acidic, and permeable soil to start with. Make sure that the pH balance of the soil is within the 5.7-6.5 range, and only contains natural and organic materials.

For example:

  • Guano
  • Peat Moss
  • Manure
  • Coco Fiber
  • Sand
  • Rock Dust
  • Vermiculite
  • Perlite

These types of ingredients will help get you started off on the right foot.

Learn How to Mix the Soil

Once you have your base soil, you want to begin by enriching it. Keep in mind, you should ideally create your super soil mix several months prior to using it. This is to help the components break down and permeate the soil better.

You can enrich the soil by adding other 'ingredients' to it such as:

  • Vegetable/Fruit peels
  • Eggshells
  • Compost
  • Lime
  • Epsom Salts
  • Coffee Grounds
  • Worm Castings
  • Rock Phosphate

Ratios Will Vary Depending on Composition

Add in your enriching ingredients to your base soil and mix it thoroughly. The ratios will vary depending on the composition of your starter soil. By adding these various components, you are creating a very nutrient dense and rich soil.

These ingredients will take months, or even years to break down sometimes. Because of this, you want to carefully plan your super soil operation. Ideally, you would allow these components to break down in the soil naturally.

However, there is a faster way if you are in a rush.

How To Make a Quick Mix

If you are in a hurry and wish to make a super soil mix that is able to use quickly, you can still do so. The 'quick and dirty method' can have your soil ready in two days.

  • Start by mixing 3 parts starter soil
  • Add in 1 part worm castings
  • Add in 1 part perlite
  • Add in 1/2 cup greensand
  • Add in 1/2 cup dolomite lime
  • Add in 1/3 cup guano

Simply mix all of this together and allow to soak thoroughly in water for two days. Let the water runoff completely, and use!

You should be careful with this method, however. It can often come out too nutrient dense and can run the risk of 'nutrient burning' your plant. Proceed with caution!

Creating a cannabis super soil mix can be a time consuming, and costly endeavor. For that reason, many home growers simply buy pre-made super soil mixes for convenience.

However, making your own can ensure that you know exactly what goes into it. In addition, it can help you feel more connected to your cannabis plants in a natural way. Ultimately, making a super soil mix is not for the faint of heart--but it can be fun!

What is PPE?

Most people would say that they are familiar with PPE in the workplace (personal protective equipment). Whether it be the food industry, or construction and warehouse jobs, PPE is almost always a standard for safety across any industry.

However, many cultivators tend to ignore the use of PPE in the grow house, and around their cannabis. By the way, if you're looking for the best wholesale CBD flower, you'll want to check out our updated article.

It's an Absolute Must!

It might seem like quite a bit of 'overkill', however, PPE when working in the grow house and around cannabis is an absolute must. Let's talk about why PPE is important, and what kinds of PPE you should be wearing.

What Kind of Protective Gear Is Necessary in The Grow House?

Within the cannabis cultivation industry, OSHA has its own set of federal regulations regarding protective gear when working in the grow house. In addition, each state will also have its own additional regulations and safety standards.

However, in general, you should always enter the grow house wearing the following:

  • Full body coveralls made of breathable material.
  • Gloves
  • Eye protecting glasses/goggles
  • Slip resistant shoes
  • Hairnet/hood/hat
  • Respirator on certain occasions

The idea behind PPE in the grow house is to not only protect the individual, but also the plants. Having yourself covered as much as possible will accomplish both.

Why Protective Equipment Is Important in The Grow House

It's always a good idea to wear PPE whenever growing cannabis on any scale--large or small. Even if you simply have 1-2 plants at home, you should always protect yourself to some degree.

This is because working with plants and industrial grade chemicals and organic materials can be dangerous no matter what. In addition, sometimes you simply have to protect the plant as well.

The primary reasons for wearing PPE in the grow house include, but are not limited to:

Protect Against Biohazards

The grow house can become a hotbed for molds, and growths that thrive on the heat and humidity that exist within a grow house. It is important to protect your skin and respiratory system from these types of organisms. In addition, the resins and compounds on the cannabis itself can also cause skin and eye irritation when exposed to high levels frequently.

Protect Against Chemical Hazards

Pesticides, plant nutrients, fertilizers, fungicides, all can become quite commonly used in the grow house when growing cannabis. These chemicals and nutrients can irritate the skin and cause health hazards when individuals become exposed to them in large quantities. It is important to protect your skin, eyes, and respiratory system from them.

Protect Against Physical Hazards

Within the grow house, you are likely going to find increased moisture on the floors, as well as various pieces of industrial equipment that may be present within the grow house. It is important to protect your body from potential injury that could be incurred by accident within this environment.

Protect the Cannabis Plants from Hazards

It is incredibly easy to bring particulates, and other foreign objects into the grow house via your clothes, or body in some way. These particulates can harm or damage the integrity of the cannabis. You always want to protect the plants themselves from any harmful substances that you or others may drag into the grow house.

It may seem or feel odd to get into the habit of fully suiting up before entering the grow house at first. However, with time, you will get used to it.

With all of the various hazards that exist that could harm you, or the plants themselves, PPE in the grow house is essential to growing top quality cannabis.

The Best Water For Your Marijuana Plants

Water is at the heart of everything on Earth. Our bodies are primarily made up of it; virtually nothing on the planet can survive without it. Water is quite literally, the elixir of life. However, not all water is created equal. While the basic natural 'recipe' for water remains the same across the board, what that water contains can change drastically.

The difference in types of water is much more vast than simple 'saltwater' and 'fresh water'. Different regions can have water with all sorts of minerals and particulates in it that can drastically change the flavor, and viability of that water itself--especially when it comes to watering marijuana plants. Let's take a closer look.

Looking for hemp flower for sale? Look no more, we got your back with our resource guide!

Ideal Water for Marijuana

Marijuana is very particular about the 'type' of water that it needs and enjoys. In most cases, simply grabbing water from the tap will not do. You are going to have to do a deep dive (pardon the pun), into your local water source to find out what it's really made of.

Unless you are using distilled water to begin with, you should always test the water prior to giving it to your plant. Here is what to look for.

Nutrient Density

When discussing water, you will often hear the terms 'soft' or 'hard' water. This has nothing to do with how dense the water feels, but rather how mineral dense it is. In general, marijuana likes hard water, so long as those minerals are the right ones.

Mineral content in water is always measured in parts per-million(PPM). Normal tap water will have a range of 50-300 PPM in mineral content. Cannabis plants will typically want 500-1,100 PPM of mineral content depending on what stage of life the cannabis plant is in.

In this case, you will almost always need to buy nutrient kits to treat your water within order to boost the mineral content.

pH Balance

pH balance is a scale that measures how acidic or alkaline your water is. You can measure your water by using pH testing strips that can be purchased at gardening stores or online.

The pH balance of the water is essential to proper growth, as it an effect the way that the nutrients are delivered to the plant's roots. Ideally, the pH balance of your water should be slightly acidic, between 5.7-6.5.

It is not necessary to maintain a perfect number here, simply maintain a healthy balance within the acceptable range. Always test and treat your water accordingly.

Water Temperature

If the water is too hot, or too cold, the plant will struggle to properly absorb the nutrients. Because of this, it is important to maintain a proper temperature before giving it to your marijuana plant. Ideally, the water should be between 68-73 degrees Fahrenheit (20-23 Celsius).

Rainwater Is Considered Good Water

Any kind of water can be used as a starting point for your marijuana plants, so long as it is properly treated to meet the requirements of the plant. Believe it or not, rainwater is typically the absolute best starting point for your marijuana.

It usually starts off very close, or exactly within the range that you need it to be and will require very little treatment. Distilled water is also great, as it allows you to start from scratch and add the nutrients that you need yourself.

Ultimately, whatever type of water you choose to start with is your choice. All you need to do is ensure that you are properly treating it and maintaining it to give your marijuana plant the precise nutrients and delivery efficiency it needs to be happy and healthy.

Nutrient Mistakes to Avoid When Growing Cannabis

Just because the cannabis plant is often referred to as 'weed', does not mean that it grows like one. That is, cannabis cultivation requires a fair bit more care and control than simply setting and forgetting.

A properly cared for cannabis plant will require careful procedure, nutrients, and light control in order to yield the absolute best bud annually. If you're looking for high CBD hemp seeds for sale, we have you covered.

Not Putting Nutrients in the Soil Is the Most Common Mistake for New Growers

Because growing cannabis can be so tricky, it is important to know some common mistakes newcomers make when growing. In this way, you can avoid making them for yourself.

Not putting nutrients in the soil is one of the largest areas of concern for most newcomers. Here are some common mistakes that new growers make, in regard to the nutrients they give their new cannabis plants.

Poor pH Balance

Cannabis is amazingly pH sensitive. Often new growers will simply grab some water from their tap and add it to their plant as if it was a normal flower or herb. This is potentially a lethal mistake for the plant itself. You should always make sure the pH balance of the water is correct, before giving it to your plant.

Ideally, the pH balance of water for cannabis plants should be between 5.7-6.5. Anything more or less can harm the plant in a multitude of ways. Always check your water, before watering!

Overfeeding Can Cause Leaf Burn

It's easy to become excited by progress. If you notice your cannabis plant is growing beautifully, you might become overzealous and give it more food. After all, more food will only help it grow faster, right? Wrong.

Overfeeding the plant nutrients can cause something known as 'leaf burn'. This is when the tips of the leaves turn yellow or brow in color. This is a sign that the roots are too blocked by nutrients and cannot access proper levels of water. This will eventually kill the plant if not corrected! Take care to only feed your cannabis what it needs, never ever too much.

Not Knowing Your Water Source

The pH balance of the water isn't the only thing that is important. In certain areas, particularly urban areas with municipal water sources, can have all types of particulates and minerals in the water. These are generally safe for human consumption but can cause issues when fed to a cannabis plant.

You should always do your due diligence to check the composition of your local water, to make sure it is safe to give to your cannabis plant. If not, it will need to be treated properly.

Growing in Improper Containers

When cannabis grows outside, the soil itself has a natural method for allowing water runoff. When growing indoors, inside a container or vessel, you will not necessarily have that. It is important to ensure that water and excess nutrients have a easy path of runoff in order to prevent them from building up and sitting in the soil for extended periods of time.

Improper water runoff can lead to root disease, root rot, and a host of other issues with the cannabis plant down the road. Always make sure that the water and nutrients have a place to go when they are in excess.

Cannabis plants are rather fickle beasts. While growing cannabis is considered to be a relatively straightforward process, it still has the chance to go sour rather quickly. Make sure that you understand the nutrients process and how to properly feed your cannabis.

A happy cannabis plant is one that eats right, and gets the proper nutrients to stay healthy. .

The Right Time To Harvest Your Cannabis

Every experienced grower recalls fondly the feeling of their first harvest. After months of hard work and dedication, the time comes at last to reap the rewards! It can be an extremely exciting time. However, often this excitement can lead to premature harvesting by newcomers.

It is important to know exactly when the right time to harvest is, to avoid a bud that is too weak or too overbearing. Let's go over the several different ways that you can tell when harvest time has come. PS. You can buy quality hemp seeds here.

Industrial Cannabis Harvesting Machines

How to Tell When It's Harvest Time

There really is no perfect science behind determining exactly when your cannabis plants will be ready to harvest. In most cases, you will have to keep a close eye on it and determine for yourself. Although, there is a general guideline that you can follow in order to give you an idea of when to begin checking for signs of harvest.

For example:

  • Indica strains are typically ready to harvest 8 weeks after flowering.
  • Sativa strains are typically ready to harvest 10 weeks after flowering.
  • Auto-flowering seeds are typically ready to harvest 10 weeks after the seedling phase.

These general timelines are suggestions and should not be your 'gospel'. For a more in depth understanding of when your bud is ready to harvest, you will likely need to get more hands-on with the cannabis itself.

The Trichome Method & Pistil Method

While your seed bank will typically have a suggested harvesting time frame on the seeds themselves, this suggested time frame should never be relied upon. Instead, you should either use the 'trichome' method, or the 'pistil' method.

The Trichome Method

Trichomes are the tiny little glands on the flower of the cannabis plant that produce the resin containing all of the terpenes and cannabinoids that we smoke cannabis for. Trichomes are a powerful indicator of when your cannabis is ready for harvest. However, they cannot be seen with the unaided eye. You will need to use a magnifying glass (a jeweler's loupe is recommended).

Trichomes Can Not Be Seen with the Naked Eye

Normally trichomes are crystalline and clear in appearance. However, throughout the flowering stage, the trichomes will become milky and hazy in color. When the trichomes have become mostly milky, with very little clarity, the cannabis is ready for harvest and has maximized THC content. If the trichomes have turned amber in color, you have waited too long.

The Pistil Method

Pistils are the tiny little 'hairy' growths that appear on the cannabis flower throughout the flowering stage. These tiny growths are important to the reproductive system of the cannabis plant and is where the seed will develop if the plant is pollinated.

Pistils Will Change Color

In the beginning, the pistils will appear white in color. However, over time, they will begin to change into reds, browns, or oranges depending on the strain. Once at least half of the pistils have visibly changed color, the bud is ready to harvest. When 60-70% of them have changed color, you will have a more potent and 'powerful' bud.

Timing Is Everything!

It's important to note that timing is everything when it comes to harvesting cannabis. If the trichomes are too clear, or the pistils too white, the cannabis will be weak and lacking in the THC potency you are looking for. If the trichomes are left to turn amber, or the pistils become too dark, the cannabis will be too strong and have an unpleasant flavor and aroma.

Honing in on the proper technique and time frame for your crop is going to take some trial and error. Understand the general timeline of your strain and keep a watchful eye on the bud itself. Eventually you will find the right formula to success!
